Doing a TV remake of a classic Western doesn't sound like a terribly good idea, as comparisons with the fondly remembered original are usually not favourable. That applies here but, in all fairness, this is a pretty enjoyable Western. It just has a tough act to follow. The story is the same. Seven gunmen rescue terrorised villagers from a large gang of baddies. In 1960, they were Mexican, here they're Seminole indians. The baddies are now a bunch of ex-confederate soldiers, not Mexican banditos. Michael Biehn, a much underrated star, takes the Yul Brynner role of Chris, the leader of the seven. He does the steely-eyed man in black act very well. Perennial villain Kurtwood Smith plays Anderson, the leader of the baddies. There's nothing you haven't seen before although the seven are given a Young Guns gloss. But it's still enjoyable stuff.
