Jena Malone

Jena Malone

Born: 21 November 1984
Where: Sparks, Nevada, USA

Malone's first celluloid appearance was in Michael Jackson's music video for the song Childhood.

In 1996 she played Bone, the title character, in Anjelica Huston's Bastard Out of Carolina, which garnered her rave reviews and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination.

This hit was followed by another high profile co-starring role as Beau Bridges' daughter in Hidden In America, a made-for-TV-movie.

The following year, still as a young teenager, Jena moved to New York City and almost immediately made a big splash on the big screen as Jodie Foster's character as a young girl in Contact.

By now a busy actress with movie offers flooding in, Jena's next move was to star as Kelly Preston's daughter in For Love of the Game, which also starred Kevin Costner.

In 1999, her offscreen life made the headlines when she sued her mother Debbie for alleged mishandling her earnings and mismanaging her career.

At the same time she was building up a solid film career with appearances in Stepmom and in the cult movie Donnie Darko.

"I’m trying to portray youth in an accurate and honest way regardless of whether it’s a film that’s marketed toward older people or for younger people."

She upped her profile in the drama My Life As a House and also appeared in the drama The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys.

In 2003, she made a brief appearance as the ferry girl in Cold Mountain and also starred in the skewed religious comedy Saved.
