The grim realities of drug addiction are painfully explored in this hard-hitting drama. Michael Imperioli stars as Angel, who is given his first hit of crack cocaine when he is out celebrating the birth of his second child. It's not long before he is dealing the stuff as well, to pay for his own growing habit. His wife Monika (Mira Sorvino) sticks by him, telling herself Angel is in control. But, of course, things go from bad to worse. The story is based on journals found in an empty New York apartment, which gives it an authentic edge many similarly-themed films have lacked. Imperioli and Sorvino give top-notch performances in what is a harsh and salutary tale.
