Star Trek: First Contact

The inspired casting of Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard continued to pay dividends in this excellent outing for the USS Enterprise. The intrepid crew travel back in time to 21st-century Earth to thwart the Borg, the Federation's deadliest enemy. Superbly played and dynamically paced, this shows our intergalactic heroes at their Borg-bashing best.

Star Trek VIII

Sensationally good of its kind, this is the best Star Trek film of the series so far.

Exchanges between Enterprise captain Patrick Stewart and Earthling Alfre Woodard have a vital, human quality missing from the dry dialogue of previous entries.

And co-star Jonathan Frakes' handling of the intelligent, not-too-complex plot should ensure he lives long and prospers as a film director.

Tension and excitement are rhythmically controlled through a whole series of seat-gripping sequences, as the half-machine, half-organic Borg threaten to destroy history - and with it the Starfleet itself.

Tackled head on by the Enterprise, whose captain was once 'assimilated' by the Borg but rescued, the bad guys head through a time warp to Earth 20-63 to prevent 'first contact' between Earthmen and Vulcans.

Stewart proves himself a first-rate actor in a demandingly-written role and there's a strong showing by Alice Krige as the reptilian Borg queen.

Yes, I agree, This is indeed the best of all the Star Trek films. There is a very simple reason for this as well. Unlike all the other outings the franchise has tormented the public with, this one is accessible by all. The premise is simple, good guys verses bad guys. Throw in a little time travel. Make the bad guys really scary, crack the odd joke and viola! Not only the best Star Trek film but a very entertaining Sci-Fi to boot. Of course, Trek fans adore this, but don't let that put you off.

The best Trek movie featuring the Next Generation cast. Special effects wonderful, great story, impressive performances and character interaction, and the good old 'us against them' formula works a real treat. I challenge even fans of such drivvle like Friends to not be entertained by First Contact. Resistance is Futile.
