Fifty years after the end of World War Two, Nazi war criminals are still being pursued. But the trial that hit the headlines back in 1961 was that of Adolf Eichmann, one of the chief architects of Hitler's death camps. This well-scripted TV movie takes us back to 1960, when Israeli secret agent Peter Malkin (Arliss Howard) heads a team that travels to Argentina, convinced that Eichmann (Robert Duvall) is in hiding there. Based on Malkin's book, the story follows the quest and capture. The chase thriller element is quite well done, but the movie then develops into a riveting two-hander as Malkin questions Eichmann in an attempt to understand the man's mindset. Howard and Duvall are both first-rate, giving beautifully balanced characterisations, with Duvall in particular brilliantly portraying the banal bureaucrat for whom efficiency was all. Chilling stuff.
