The young star has made a virtue out of playing youngsters in peril in movies ranging from The Sixth Sense to Jurassic Park III.
After being discovered by a talent spotter in a shopping mall at the age of six, Morgan got his first acting break in commercials.
Work included posing for the cover of a Life cereal box before he made his big screen debut in the 1998 Leslie Nielsen comedy Family Plan.
The same year he starred in the big screen outing of politically correct purple dinosaur Barney and the family drama I'll Remember April.
His profile rose with a part opposite Haley Joel Osment in M Night Shyamalan supernatural thriller The Sixth Sense.
On the small screen, he impressed as the cancer stricken son of a doctor in ER before taking the role of Mel Gibson's son in the American Civil War drama The Patriot in 2000.
That role brought him to the attention of Steven Spielberg, who cast him as the son of William H Macy and Tea Leone trapped on an island in Jurassic Park III.
In 2001, he starred in the thriller The Glass House and had an uncredited role in the baseball movie The Rookie with Dennis Quaid.
Recent work includes the teenage drama Mean Creek with Rory Culkin.
