This story of a widower who wants to adopt a baby girl is fair and squarely aimed at your tear ducts, but if that puts you off, it must be said that this is a big step above the average TV movie melodrama. The tale could have so easily sunk into soap opera but thanks to an excellent script and some fine acting, it rises above its humble pretentions to tell a genuinely moving story. Andrew McCarthy is excellent as Keith Lussier, the embattled father, and he gets strong support from Michael Learned, Teri Polo and Shirley Knight. Rattling good drama and a change from our usual diet of shoot-em-ups.
