The Truman Show

Jim Carrey plays the unwitting star of the world's longest running documentary soap opera: his own life. Truman's island world is the largest set ever built; even the sea is artificial and the moon a satellite from which the show is controlled. Peter Weir's nicely constructed and thoroughly entertaining yarn finds Carrey at his most restrained. Think Big Brother with brains.

This is quite a creepy fantasy about a man whose whole life, unknown to him, is a 24-hour TV show.

Heavens knows what insomniacs do when he sleeps or what happens when he has sex with his wife (Laura Linney) but no matter: Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) is one of the raves of TV.

His whole island town is the largest set ever built; even the sea is artificial and the moon a satellite from which the show is controlled.

This was the turning point in Jim Carrey's career, showing that he is more than just a one trick pony with his previous films Ace Ventura and The Mask.
