Mary Harron
Born: c. 1953
Where: Canada
Although born in Canada, Mary was raised in London, then moved to New York City where she began writing for PUNK Magazine in her early 20s.
She was the first journalist to interview The Sex Pistols and then returned to London and worked as a TV researcher for such programmes as The South Bank Show and The Late Show - for which she eventually began directing segments.
In 1990 Mary moved in front of the camera and presented the talk show UK Late but soon returned to New York.
Mary co-wrote and directed her first feature I Shot Andy Warhol, which was shunned by many Warhol fans and friends.
For the next couple of years she continued to direct American TV series, then in 2000 she directed American Psycho, a controversial adaptation of the violent and gruesome novel by Brett Easton Ellis.
