Mann worked steadily with supporting roles in independent films in the 1990s, breaking through to more starring parts and bigger productions.
Having trained with Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse, he began working in independent features with his debut in 1994's Parallel Sons.
In Stonewall he played one of the famed rioters and went on to be featured in the similarly historical I Shot Andy Warhol as well as the New York City-set illtown.
Segueing easily from these gritty films to traditional TV-movie fare like Harvest of Fire and Heart Full of Rain.
Back on the big screen, he was featured in the coming of age indie How to Make the Cruelest Month and had featured roles in the higher profile Great Expectations and High Art.
In Outside Providence he played a ne'er-do-well prep school student while also putting in appeances in Cherry Falls and Live Virgin.
He reached a wider audience as Alan M in Josie and the Pussycats and had a challenging role as a rock journalist in Alison Anders' Things Behind the Sun.
Next came Summer Catch, Newport South and Buffalo Soldiers before a strong supporting role in Alan Parker's The Life of David Gale.
