This cute and colourful old-style kids' adventure is wonderfully acted and has a gorgeous retro look. Hatty Jones makes a fine Madeline, an impish orphan living with 11 other girls in a Paris boarding school run by nun Frances McDormand. Nigel Hawthorne adds class as the snooty benefactor who plans to close the school.
