Elmore Leonard writes a pretty good thriller, but results when the stories hit the screen have been variable. Luckily, with Gold Coast, the transfer to celluloid has been pretty successful. It's the story of a dead Mob boss's wife (Marg Helgenberger) who is held in isolation by hubby's will which stipulates that she can only hang onto his ill-gotten millions if she remains faithful to him. Enter Maguire (David Caruso) the good(ish) guy she falls for and Crowe (Jeff Kober), a Mob thug hired to make sure she sticks to the letter of the will. Set in sunny Florida, this TV movie is well cast and well scripted. Slick entertainment.
