The kindest thing to say about this Michael Winner film is that it's not as bad as his previous opus, Dirty Weekend. It is, however, a below average, early 1970s-style black comedy, very flatly directed and making a number of talented players look very ordinary indeed. Musician Chris Rea has little acting ability but a certain dog-eared charm as the man who, given six weeks to live, decides to kill a string of his nearest but not so dearest before hiring hit man Oliver Reed to dispose of Rea himself. Reed is quite drily amusing, but others are not so lucky, Felicity Kendal, Bob Hoskins, Diana Rigg, John Cleese, Gareth Hunt and Ben Kingsley all failing by varying degrees to avoid embarrassing themselves.
