Written and directed by William Boyd, this is the story of young, naïve British soldiers manning a frontline trench in the 48 hours before the Somme offensive of World War One.

It emerges that the Germans are still alive and waiting for them and the film climaxes on the bloodiest day in the British Army's history.

The characters are believable, there's a competent portrayal of life in the trenches and it's worth seeing for the honourable intentions and a sterling Brit cast. Ex-EastEnder Paul Nicholls and new 007 Daniel Craig star.
