If lacking in the sheer inspiration that might have turned it into a classic, this is still jolly good fun from Disney and it's great to see animal characters holding sway again. Tarzan himself, the boy raised by gorillas in the African jungle in the early 1900s, is of course more animal than man in spirit - but man enough to thwart the plans of hunters led by the dastardly Clayton, who has arrived on the coattails of naive anthropologist Porter and his feisty daughter Jane. A sensationally good battle between ape-man and leopard highlights the early action, which makes way for a comic mid-section about Tarzan's upbringing, before the climactic story about the gorillas being hunted for zoos swings into action. The voice cast is exceptional as you might expect: Tony Goldwyn is Tarzan, Minnie Driver Jane, Nigel Hawthorne Porter and Glenn Close Tarzan's gorilla mum. No dull patches - even the romantic bits are fun - means tinies will be enthralled. Animation is ace.
