So called because it's set in Australia's desolate desert Outback, this offbeat love story stars Paul Mercurio as a garage owner who falls for the girlfriend of nasty Colin Friels, one of a gang of diamond thieves, when they break down in his area. More could have been made of this idea, but director Michael Robertson concentrates too much on ephemeral imagery, while gaps in the story, wishy-washy characters and a slowish pace don't do the project any favours. As compensation, the ending is unexpected and the scenery beautifully filmed.
