Take your seats, please. for this extremely handsome-looking sci-fi action movie from Paul WS Anderson, the British director of Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon. With only a handful of words to say in the entire movie, a grim-faced, pumped-up Kurt Russell makes an excellent hero as the part-man, part-machine fighter who discovers his humanity to save a ragbag of colonists from the next generation of even more deadly killing machines (led by Jason Scott Lee's chilling Caine 607). Though it runs out of steam and conviction around mid-way, it's still a largely entertaining attempt to emulate the success and formula of the Terminator series. The action is suitably exciting, throughout, with lots of well-staged Schwarzenegger-style shoot-ups.
