The former child star chilled as a psychotic teenager in the Bruce Willis action thriller Hostage.
Other high-profile appearances have included Liberty Heights and he is also known for the part of Russell Corwin in the black TV drama Six Feet Under.
By the age of eight, he was acting with local theatre companies, landing his first leading role at age 11 as the title character in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
He dropped out of high school, and headed to L.A. where he made his film debut in 1996 in the little-seen Kounterfeit, before landing the role of Tucker James in the Disney series Flash Forward.
Shifting gears, Foster played a teen murderer in the 1998 TV movie I've Been Waiting for You, before returning to the big screen as a member of a Jewish family in Barry Levinson's semi-autobiographical Liberty Heights.
Roles followed in the romantic comedy Get Over It (he dated co-star Kirsten Dunst) and The Laramie Project with Christina Ricci.
In 2003, he starred in the Barry Sonnenfeld drama Big Trouble and the Polish brothers' surreal drama Northfork the following year.
He played Spacker Dave in the revenge drama The Punisher in 2004 and went on to play teenage delinquent Mars in Hostage.
