You know the one where the central figure writes a best-seller and all the characters are thinly disguised versions of people he knows. Here it's welded to a sort of Big Chill scenario, where old college chums gather for the wedding of football star Morris Chestnut to his college sweetheart. Best man is first-time author Taye Diggs (from TV's Ally McBeal), currently reluctant to commit to his longtime girlfriend and keenly anticipating a reunion with Nia Long, a TV producer with whom he almost got it on at college. Unfortunately, his past relationship with the virginal bride-to-be is writ large in the pages of his book (can you believe this? ) and he just has to hope the groom doesn't read it. All this drags on and on and, although performed with enthusiasm by most of the cast, seems never quite convincing. Diggs is a shade too passive. Harold Perrineau and Terrance Howard etch more colourful and rounded portraits of the buddies with problems of their own.
