Faris seems about to break out of a career that has so far been been confined to frat-boy humour and the Scary Movie spoof slasher movies.

A student of English literature and drama, she was just nine when she featured in her first professional p

roduction and went on to appear in adverts.

Faris's break into the movies came when she was hired for the independent film Lovers Lane in 1999.

From there she was noticed for the part of Cindy in Scary Movie, for which she dyed her hair from blonde to black in order to resemble Neve Campbell.

After the sequel, she was cast opposite Rob Schneider in the lacklustre comedy The Hot Chick.

Upcoming projects include Scary Movie 3 and Sofia Coppola's drama Lost in Translation with Bill Murray.
