Tobe Hooper's barking-mad 1986 sequel to his cult sicko original.
It's 13 years on and the ghoul-faced chainsaw massacrists are still at large on the higways of Texas, to the misfortune of anyone who crosses their path.
Deejay Stretch (Caroline Williams) tapes their latest gorefest on her local radio network and resolves to help Texas Ranger Lefty (a wild-eyed Dennis Hopper), out to avenge his brother, bring them to book.
Gleefully lunatic mayhem results in a film that fiddles around with its action scenes to the point of boredom.
It does, however, achieve a certain fine madness at the finale, as well as leaving room for further sequels. Reminiscent of all-ghouls-together horror films of the Fifties, it could easily have been retitled Mad Monster Party.
A disappointment, though, from the director who had just made Poltergeist and The Funhouse.
