A bizarre mix of fantasy and reality in which eight patently gay teenagers are sent to a comic-book course where they're expected to 'get straight' with pretty inevitable results. Naturally at the first opportunity the suffering octet gets its tails down to the local gay bar for a sweaty night out. The odd thing about the movie is that it veers between the ridiculous (the central situation) and the sublime - a fairly serious romance between a not obviously lesbian cheerleader (Natasha Lyonne) and the hard-bitten Graham (Clea DuVall, a dead ringer for Hilary Swank). It's hard to decide whether this is funny, offensive, satirical or all three: such semi-names as Ione Skye,. Mink Stole, Julie Delpy, Bud Cort and RuPaul hover on its fringes.
