Sam Neill stars as the scientist in charge of the southern hemisphere's largest radio telescope, the dish of the title.
It happens to be in a small town in New South Wales, thanks to the ambitious local mayor, Roy Billing.
With his assistants, brash Kevin Harrington and lovesick Tom Long, plus Nasa consultant Patrick Warburton, Neill is supposed to provide back-up for Nasa's own moon landing shots.
But Neill's team lose contact with Apollo and must not only try to find the missing astronauts, but conceal their bungle from the world.
It is this chaos that has enabled director Rob Sitch to build a charmingly quirky comedy.
The characters are well portrayed by the whole cast, giving each one a strong and unique personality.
The thrill of this movie is that it's base on a true story so you can really relate to the value of the plot.
You're able to feel the importance of Apollo's mission with the feeling of pride from the whole nation.
