Despite the constant irritation of minimal animation - legs, arms and faces occasionally move to remind us we're watching a cartoon - this is a fairly engaging spin-off from the TV series. To the relief of the teachers, the Third Street Kids are off on summer vacation. TJ, the leader, is downcast when his five close friends head to various training camps, but boredom isn't on the menu when he finds the school has been taken over by evil scientists planning to move the moon and ice over the earth to put an end to summer recess. 'This is the life,' sighs TJ, retrieving his gang. 'Hanging out with your friends. Eating ice cream. Spying on the bad guys. These days are numbered.' It seems all their days are numbered when TJ and a sympathetic Principal Prickley are captured, but they escape to rally the troops, even though Prickley can't resist telling TJ there's 'no running in the halls.' After a dullish start, this is an enjoyable caper with a moral about childhood that's similar to Peter Pan. Adults will probably take and leave it, but younger fans of the series won't be disappointed.
