Shoreditch UK Premiere
Brit movie gets the glitzy premiere treatmentThe British comedy-thriller Shoreditch had plenty of Brit celebs in attendance for its UK premiere.
The movie, starring Shane Richie, tells the story of a bar in Shoreditch in both current times and in flashbacks to a suspense story set in 1939, in which Richie plays a nightclub owner who falls for a beautiful jazz singer played by Joely Richardson.
Most of the leading names from the cast were there, including Joely Richardson, Dane Bowers and Glen Murphy.
One cast member not invited to the event was Richie's ex-girlfriend and star of the movie, Claire Tyler.
Tyler and Richie are embroiled in a dispute over the use of some private photographs, used in his current autobiography.
Tyler is suing Richie on the basis that the photos belong to her.Any money she may look to claim from Richie may be hard to come by. The actor ploughed nearly £500,000 of his own money into Shoreditch, and given the reviews and pre-release turkey talk, Richie will be lucky to get his cash back.
According to our reviewer Tim Evans: "The script is banal beyond belief....At its best, this is like Eastenders in fancy dress."
Richie remained defiant in the face of certain doom, saying: "The amount of money I've put into this film is well documented.
"At the beginning it was only going to be a low-budget thing but it escalated and I didn't want to let it go.
"I've put my money where my mouth is and I just hope the public want to go and see it."
A large contingent of the premiere crowd was made up of the Eastenders cast, out to support their fellow soap actor.
Unless the rest of the cast go to see it today and pay £10,000 a ticket, Richie could very well find himself out of pocket.
