A live action remake of the Saturday morning cartoon series that featured three girl-band crime fighters dressed in catsuits (long tails and ears for hats...)
The Pussycats are just another struggling garage band, scraping by while playing bowling alleys for 20 bucks (minus their shoe-rental fees!).
They're 'discovered' by a record-company weasel (Cumming), who works for an utterly insane record company exec (Posey).
Mayhem ensues when the Pussycats become international sensations in just one week because the record company planted subliminal messages on their album which turn teens into consumer zombies.
This movie is laced through and through with some of the most crass product placements ever seen in any movies.
But the satire of the film is supposed to be that kids today are too hip for product placement (that's why the record company uses hidden tracks to brainwash them).
There are some very funny moments - ok, maybe not as many as there could have been, but they are there.
The music isn't bad at all either, especially when the film gets its teeth into boy bands.
A bit like some of Hollywood's other recent '70s reworks, if you remember the original, are just curious or need a little light relief, it'll probably hit the spot.
