The South American jungle in 1901 is the setting for this tense and colourful romantic adventure as a huge army of soldier ants marches towards plantation owner Charlton Heston and his bride Eleanor Parker. Unfortunately there's a lot of dull and dreary domestic detail until the movie gets into action when the ants get going, conjured up in some (for the time) amazing special effects, using millions of the creatures for close-up work actually filmed during production.
