Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni, Italy's favourite romantic twosome, never really come to grips with what is intended to be a cynical look at the church and celibacy, but ends by sitting on a fence of its own making. Loren is as lively and lovely as ever but Mastroianni seems uncertain of the interpretation of his role as the priest who falls in love with her and seeks special dispensation for their marriage.
