An intended tribute to the strength of the human spirit in adversity during World War Two. Stuck in France, James Mason and his family need to escape the Nazis and the only way out, as for the von Trapps before them, is over the mountains. Selected by the underground to guide them is a big, gruff, sheep-loving man of the mountains. It has to be Anthony Quinn and it is. Malcolm McDowell, eyes gleaming madly, gives an extraordinary performance as the Nazi pursuing them.
