That distinctive Australian actor Bryan Brown gets a chance to insert some of his personal dynamism into this what-the-hell-is-going-on? type thriller which casts him as a businessman who appears to be the victim of a bizarre kidnap plot. Brown also avoids the worst of the dialogue; that thankless assignment falls to the delectable Cherie Lunghi as the wife who only believes his story until mysterious phone calls start arriving from a woman in Germany. Otherwise, pasteboard characters speak in aphorisms and everyone is too odd or unusual to be possible, although, in that context, the film is almost stolen by Ingrid Pitt as a predatory widow, bulging every which way out of a subcutaneous outfit, who tries to sell herself along with a car.
