Tight, hard-hitting thriller about the kidnap of a blind girl by a vicious gang. William Holden and Barry Fitzgerald create likeable and contrasting characters as the policemen on the case; Nancy Olson is a pretty and resourceful heroine who enlists our sympathies from the outset; Allene Roberts is touchingly true as the hapless kidnap victim; and Lyle Bettger and Jan Sterling carve memorably nasty portraits of those on the wrong side of the law. Rudolph Maté's taut and skilful direction doesn't miss a thrill. The suspense builds irresistibly to a nail-biting underground climax.
