Deanna Durbin stars in this disappointing film musical - based on a hit stage show - about an Irish immigrant girl and her father. What the movie producers did was take out some of the fine Sigmund Romberg/Dorothy Fields songs and attempt to add to the weak storyline that involves political corruption. This had the effect of showing up the show's shortcomings, as many of its best bits had been removed. Still, never mind, Deanna sings as prettily as ever if not often enough. Starting to put on weight, she only made one more film and then retired to France with her wealthy third husband at the grand old age of 27!
