Horror obsessive and director of Hostel, Eli Roth, introduces Piranha
Swimming in on the tail of 1975's
Jaws, but with teeth firmly in cheek, this is both an enjoyable story in its own right and an amusing take-off of fishy disaster stories.
There's a fun cast headed by Bradford Dillman, Keenan Wynn and 1960s horror queen Barbara Steele, and snappy direction by the young Joe Dante, soon to move on to the 'Gremlins' films.
The horrific parts are all very well done, and the dialogue often scores too. Best line: 'But, sir, they're eating the guests'.
