A pilot movie made to remind US television viewers that Stacy Keach was still Mike Hammer, after the actor's stay in Britain turned out to be far longer than he'd anticipated. The complex kidnap and extortion plot moves swiftly from New York to Hollywood, leaving series regulars Don Stroud, Lindsay Bloom and Kent Williams with little involvement, and Hammer's voice-overs are sometimes a little hard on the ears: 'The sun goes to sleep early in LA, like a high-heeled hooker on a Saturday night.' Less violent than the actual series and, in his dealings with potential kidnap victim Emily Chance, Keach has softened the Hammer character, too.
