A sprawling novel by the prolific Frank Yerby is condensed into a full-blooded costume action film, typical of Hollywood's sword and sandal sagas of the early Fifties, full of clichéd but effective dialogue and stirring action scenes. Enthusiastic performances by Ricardo Montalban, Betta St John, Michael Ansara, Rick Jason and especially Carolyn Jones, whose minxish portrayal steals the film, ensure you'll be cheering the hero on through a slew of improbable adventures. An underrated film: very entertaining.
