Director Gordon Flemyng may not have known it, but he had a star-studded cast of the future on his hands when he made this brutal robbery thriller, based on a novel by Richard Stark, who also wrote Point Blank. Photographer Burnett Guffey, who had won an Oscar the previous year on Bonnie and Clyde, again dazzles us with the splendour of his colour camerawork - from sunny scenes of Southern California, through a shattering car smashing 'initiation test,' to a night-time shoot-out on the cargo-crammed wharfside. Jim Brown, Ernest Borgnine, Gene Hackman, Warren Oates and Donald Sutherland head the tough-guy cast.
