One of those typically American dramas in which a reunion of one-time colleagues turns into an orgy of soul-baring and breast-beating, this was an enormous success on the Broadway stage and this film version boasts a high powered cast led by Bruce Dern, Stacy Keach and Robert Mitchum. It never really escapes its stage origins, but does provide a series of virtuoso turns for the leading actors, Keach coming off best.
