Why does a man massacre a bus full of people? What connection does it have with the two-year-old murder of a kinky prostitute? Why was a policeman on the bus? Where does the stripper with the amazing figure fit in? Can Walter Matthau and Bruce Dern find the killer before the chief (Anthony Zerbe) takes them off the case? This laughing policeman is no joke, but at least the Matthau-Dern combination saves it from being a routine blood-soaked urban thriller. I also liked Lou Gossett as a hard black cop who tells a suspect `Whatever you're reaching for had better be a sandwich `cos you're gonna have to eat it', and a gay bar called The Frolic Room.
