Prominent playwright Tom Stoppard wrote the screenplay of this `circular' little comedy about a poverty-stricken businessman (mournfully played by David Warner) and his efforts to raise the money for a taxi ride, the cost of which continues to rise as he cruises around trying to pay for it. The idea is a gem, but the director's execution of it is singularly uninspired.
