In a sequence of three stories, this TV drama goes inside the doors of San Francisco's Delancey Street Foundation, a non-profit making, self-help organisation dedicated to helping people rebuild their lives. Walter McGinn stars as John McCann, a character based on the real-life founder, former junkie and convict John Maher. One of the stories centres on an ex-convict (played by Michael Conrad) who tries to pick up the pieces of his life after 36 years of confinement. He finds help from a young victim of hyperkinesis (inability to control body movements): this role is taken by Mark Hamill who shot to fame in Star Wars.
