A really big-scale production for a TV film. It has the advantage of a tremendous cast including well-known stars of today as well as major Hollywood figures of the past. Richard Widmark is cast in the role of the harassed US President whose chief foreign policy adviser disappears while on the golf course. Has he defected to the communists with top secret information? Was he a homosexual on the verge of mental collapse? Why had he been meeting a mathematics professor every Wednesday night for over a year? Why did he draw a large sum from his personal bank account the day before he disappeared? And why did the professor, who has since disappeared in equally mysterious circumstances, receive telephone calls from behind the Iron Curtain and reply to his caller in Chinese?
