It's Donald Sutherland's son, young Kiefer, who's trapped in a self-imposed silence, while the psychologist trying to cure him is played by triple Oscar nominee Marsha Mason, Neil Simon's ex-wife. This is an interesting TV package but it teeters too much towards the melodramatic to leave a lasting impression. Yet, there are some moments in this movie as Mason and Ron Silver (as another caring doctor), strive to get to the bottom of their patient's reticence but its studied earnestness produces only glycerine tears.
