In this fair version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic tale of mystery and suspense, Stewart Granger joins the long list of actors to play Sherlock Holmes. Granger gives it a solid try, but lacks the cerebral qualities one associates with the role, qualities that such actors as Peter Cushing and Basil Rathbone expressed so well. Bernard Fox plays Dr Watson, without exaggerating the character (as so often happens) who accompanies Holmes on his investigations into the baffling death of the heir to the Baskerville fortune. Holmes's main concern is to save another heir from the same fate, and thereby to refute the legend of the murderous hound. The supporting cast is headed by William Shatner and Sally Ann Howes.
