An Emmy-Award-winning drama based on a Tennessee Williams story that uses one family's plight as a microcosm for the migratory farmworkers' `harvest of shame', graphically documented by pioneering tele-journalist Ed Morrow years earlier. Cloris Leachman leads an excellent cast, which includes Ron Howard (now the director of such box-office hits as 'Splash', 'Cocoon' and 'Willow'), button-nosed Cindy Williams, hawk-featured Ed Lauter and, a couple of years before she sprang to fame in 'Carrie', Sissy Spacek. Solidly directed by Tom Gries, whose best film remains the haunting western 'Will Penny'.
