Easy to see what drew Kirk Douglas to this offbeat drama set in a senior citizens' nursing home - in many ways, Amos resembles One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Douglas had played the lead role in that famous drama on Broadway (though Jack Nicholson starred in the film version, winning an Oscar). Here, in the title role, he finds himself crossing swords with flinty head nurse Elizabeth Montgomery, a hard-hearted character light years away from her cute nose-twitching in the long-running comedy series Bewitched.
