A thinly-veiled remake of the 1937 film A Yank at Oxford, with Rob Lowe in the Robert Taylor role as the upstart American who tries to use his rowing prowess to impress the aristocratic English beauty on whom he's set his heart. There's a nice college atmosphere, and some engaging performances, notably from Ally Sheedy (as the American lady cox Lowe seems destined to end up with) and Julian Sands. Otherwise the conventions of the Hollywood teen movie are strictly adhered to in spite of the picturesque English settings.
