Although this film does cash in on the backstreets bedroom drama popular in Sixties' British cinema, director Sidney Hayers has at the same time, contrived a very interesting drama from a rather middling English Peyton Place-type novel by Nan Maynard. A strong, magnetic story, and genuinely sympathetic characters are the best things about a film that sees Ian Hendry giving a performance of compelling brilliance as an alley-cat charmer, turning laughter to menace and back in the flicker of an eyelid. As the working wife he seduces, June Ritchie's vocal delivery is somewhat short of her range of facial emotions.
