A fiendishly complex black comedy about a presidential assassination mystery. Alas, it will try your patience sorely and makes the John F Kennedy killing, as one critic put it, 'look like a connect-the-dots puzzle'. Jeff Bridges achieves a believable characterisation of a man caught up in a situation he can't grasp, something with which the audience might well sympathise. 'It's a conundrum,' growls Richard Boone. 'A riddle within a riddle.' He can say that again. Elizabeth Taylor pops in for a brief, wordless cameo role, as a former movie star who served as procuress for the late president.
