This comic homage to Alfred Hitchcock is, like all of Mel Brooks' films, simply bubbling with ideas. More's the pity, then, that Brooks takes it all above and beyond its subtler comic possibilities.
Under Brooks' own direction, he and the rest of his cast go over the top together.
Barry Levinson, later the famous director of such hits as Rain Man, plays the cheeky bellboy who helps set up a bright take-off of the Psycho shower scene.
