The Karate Kid III

Humiliated high-kickin' villain Kreese (Martin Kove) returns to get his revenge against Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita) and Daniel (Ralph Macchio). Bankrupt and still smarting after that defeat, he's enlisted a nasty helping hand...but Daniel turns down the title challenge. More fast-paced martial arts and a winner for those who got off on the previous two instalments.

The Karate Kid III

The relative failure of The Karate Kid Part II should have taught its producers a thing or two.

But no. This comic-book-style second sequel gives us another challenge, another girlfriend and another fight at the end that proves a complete anti-climax.

The villains from the first Karate Kid (plus a bigger villain) swear vengeance on 'that old dojo and the punk kid' (that's still 'Pat' Morita and a now slightly overweight Ralph Macchio).

'I'm gonna make them suffer for what they did to you,' swears villain number one. 'And suffer. And suffer.

You know what the kid's gonna learn from me? Fear in his mind. And pain in his body.'

All of which pain and suffering can be undergone by viewers subjecting themselves to this flabby and often laughable straggler in the series.

A veritable seven-stone weakling of a film.

I thought this was a step up after a slightly disappointing sequel in Karate Kid II. This one brings the story back to Daniel fighting against his own fears again while the 2nd instalment focused on Mr Miyagi. A fitting end to the series.
